Yes, after over a decade, the singer has finally been credited with establishing the English-Irish band that later took the world by storm; and rose artists like Harry Styles to stardom. In the newly released clip from Season 7 of X Factor UK, then judges Scherzinger, Simon Cowell, and Louis Walsh can be seen deciding which individual artists should be grouped together (instead of cut from the show) because as individuals, they were “too talented to let go of.” When the time came to decide on the fate of Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik, Scherzinger was the one who vouched for them and recommended that the five collaborate. “They’re the cutest boy band ever. I love it. The little girls are gonna love them,” Scherzinger said in the video. “I think they’ll be a really great in a boy band together.” And after the band sold over 70 million albums worldwide, made history as the first British artist to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, and completed four world tours (two of which were all-stadium tours), the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls was certainly right about her judgment. Scherzinger had a few choice words to share in regards to the newly unearthed credits: “Does it ever drive you crazy just how…long it takes for the truth to come out?😉♥️,” Scherzinger wrote online. In the video Scherzinger is seen transforming from a robe and protective hairstyle to a full-glam look, complete with a revenge red dress, fabulous hair, and all–while lip-syncing One Direction’s Night Changes. Fans, unwilling to miss a beat, quickly showered the singer with love, adoration, and a whole lot of well-deserved praise. “Yet another reason why Nicole Scherzinger is a national treasure,” wrote Nicholas Hautman, the deputy editor at Page Six. Another demanded fans show the Grammy-nominated singer some gratitude: “EVERYBODY SAY THANK YOU @NicoleScherzy Nicole Scherzinger. IT WAS HER.” While others simply used the now confirmed revelation as inspiration for memes–and to drag Liam Payne over his previous comments that the band was formed around Payne; as the X Factor UK video tells a much different tale. Another wrote: “She’s a 10 but she’s crying over this,” next to a still image of Scherzinger arranging the band’s headshots for the show. All of that to say: thank you for giving us One Direction, Miss Scherzinger! Next, Zac Efron Visits East High From ‘High School Musical’ in Nostalgic Instagram Post.
